Congratulations and Thank You to Joseph Costantino, DrPH, on his Retirement

Dr. Costantino has officially retired from his position as the Director of the NRG Oncology Statistics and Data Management Center (SDMC). Dr. James Dignam is now the Director for the NRG Oncology SDMC and Dr. Gregory Yothers has taken the role of Senior Deputy Director/ Deputy Group Statistician for the SDMC. Read more

Congratulations and Thank You to Lynne Suhayda on her Retirement

Lynne Suhayda, RN, MSEd, retired in September 2019 after 17 years as the Director of the Clinical Coordinating Department (CCD) for the NSABP. As director of the CCD, Lynne with the assistance of her staff, answered clinical questions related to NRG Oncology breast and colorectal clinical trials and, offered their experience and leadership in building the education and training programs for nurses and CRAs for NRG Oncology. We wish Lynne all the best in her retirement.

Kristen Kotsko, RN, BSN, has accepted the position of Director for the Clinical Coordinating Department. Kristen's years of experience assure that our members will find the same commitment to service that has been the hallmark of the Clinical Coordinating Department.

Standardization of Lower Extremity Quantitative Lymphedema Measurements and Associated Patient Reported Outcomes in Gynecological Cancers

The NCI hosted a panel to determine the best tools to identify the development of lymphedema.  Gynecologic/pelvic cancer and or their treatments are often responsible for lower extremity lymphedema. The definition of lymphedema is swelling due to accumulation of fluid in the leg that is a protein rich material that can be chronic and disabling due to disruption or obstruction of the lymphatic channels.  The diagnosis is typically occurs within two years of the causal event such as surgery, radiation, or pelvic cancer. Diagnostic tools available include lymphangiogram, MRI, bioimpedence spectroscopy (BIS), perometry in addition to physical examination with leg swelling and edema.
