NRG Oncology Semiannual Meeting - Pre-register today to have your fee waived!

We hope you can join us for the NRG Oncology Semiannual Meeting, January 9-11, 2020, at the Marriott Marquis Houston in Houston, TX. Pre-Registration for this meeting is complimentary for all NRG members who pre-register by the deadline of December 17, 2019. We kindly ask that everyone please pre-register for this meeting before the deadline. Onsite registration will incur a $100 fee. Please note that the fee for the Winter Symposium will not be waived.

NRG Oncology will be holding a kick-off meeting for NRG-CC008 “ A Non-Randomized Prospective Clinical Trial Comparing the Non-Inferiority of Salpingectomy to Salpingo-oophorectomy to Reduce the Risk of Ovarian Cancer Among BRCA1 Carriers [SOROC],” on Friday, January 10 during the CPC workshop at 2:30pm. The protocol is anticipated to activate early 2020 and the session is open to all attendees.

Slide sets for the PSC Introduction to Clinical Trials: Principles of Clinical Trial Management and for the PSC Clinical Trials Nurse/Clinical Research Associate Educational Session are posted to Nurses and CRA /Education and Training on the NRG Oncology website. (A password is required.) If you plan to attend these sessions, please download the slides and handouts prior to the meeting and bring them with you. No handouts will be provided at the meeting. Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation Although Close was Not Equivalent to Whole-breast Irradiation to Control Ipsilateral Breast Tumor Recurrence

Long-term results from the NRG Oncology clinical trial NSABP B-39/RTOG 0413 comparing whole-breast irradiation (WBI) to accelerated partial-breast irradiation (APBI) indicated that, although the absolute difference between treatment was less than 1%, APBI did not meet the criteria for equivalence to WBI in controlling ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence (IBTR) after breast-conserving therapy. The trial provided the longest follow-up reported to date in the largest and most diverse group of patients treated with APBI; it is also the first study to include all forms of APBI. Congratulations and Thank You to Walt Cronin on His Retirement

Walter Cronin, Director, Quality Assurance and Operational Support at the NRG Oncology Statistics and Data Management Center (SDMC), and previously with the NSABP Biostatistical Center in Pittsburgh, will be retiring in January 2020 after nearly 40 years of service. 

"Walt has been instrumental in the executive leadership of the statistical center here in Pittsburgh and across NRG Oncology.  In particular, his contributions to the conduct of the NSABP Breast Cancer Prevention Studies have made a huge difference in the lives of women at high risk for breast cancer,” said Greg Yothers, PhD, Senior Deputy Director/Deputy Group Statistician for NRG Oncology SDMC.

Mimi Passarello, MBA, currently Associate Director of QA and Operational Support, will assume the role of Director, QA and Operational Support for Operations at NRG Oncology SDMC in January. Mimi has been with NRG Oncology SDMC and previously, the NSABP Biostatistical Center, since July 1994.

Winter Holiday Closures
Winter holiday closure information for the NRG Oncology Operations Offices, Statistics and Data Management Centers (SDMCs), Biospecimen Banks, Serum Bank, and McKesson's Clinical Research Services, is posted on the CTSU and NRG Oncology websites.

BB-Columbus Closure on December 13

The NRG Oncology Biospecimen Bank in Columbus will be closed from 12-2 pm EST on Friday, December 13, for staff to attend a holiday party. Please see the memo posted on the CTSU and  NRG Oncology websites for more information on contacting staff at the bank and shipping instructions during this time.

The Mentorship Working Group can provide you a mentor! Apply by visiting the NRG Oncology website -- Nurses & CRAS tab -- Mentorship Program. You will find the Mentor Request Form to complete. Do you need general information to help you get started in NRG Oncology? The NRG Oncology Mentorship Working Group would like to remind you of a valuable resource. The “Introductory Materials” for CRAs and CTNs is available on the Mentorship Program page of the NRG Oncology website. This online resource was designed to make the introduction to NRG Oncology as smooth as possible by providing information regarding specific processes and contacts to be used when conducting NRG Oncology clinical trials. The information is intended to assist new members in understanding how NRG Oncology functions.
